What Students Are Saying

headshot "The Online curriculum that UMass offered was flexible and helped me strike the right work/school/personal life balance. I was amazed how the distance learning courses not only encapsulated all the subjects and materials that an on-campus curriculum would offer but in addition offered much more flexibility and opportunity to study in a virtual way--which is the growing phenomenon in today's economic environment. It is also in one way a positive contribution towards a greener environment."

Considering Taking Courses Online?

Online learners have more choices for their online university than ever before. When it comes to taking courses from an online university, you should ask the following questions:

Is tradition important to you? If yes, does the online university have a traditional campus?
UMassOnline is part of the University of Massachusetts System, which has been serving the educational and economical needs of society for more than 140 years by providing quality education and world class research and technology. The online University of Massachusetts division is helping the system improve the lives of the people of the Commonwealth, the nation, and the world.
In addition to tradition, you may want access to on-campus student services and some face-to-face interaction and instruction. For this reason, it is important that the online university you are considering has physical campus locations.

Second, is the online university accredited? Is the online university accredited by a premier and reputable agency?
The University of Massachusetts programs offered at Amherst, Boston, Dartmouth, Lowell and the Medical School are accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, which accredits schools in the six New England states. The New England Association of Schools and Colleges is an advocate of educational quality and its improvement. Membership in the Association indicates that the institution has been carefully evaluated and found to meet standards agreed upon by qualified educators. In addition, many of each campus' schools and colleges are also accredited by discipline-specific agencies such as the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Computing Sciences Accreditation Board, National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education, and National League for Nursing. For details on Accreditation in the United States, please click here.

Does the online university grant the degree? And if so, does the online university reference online on the diploma or transcript?
With an online degree from UMassOnline, you will receive the same degree as that of on-campus students, and be taught by the same world-class faculty.  Our online degree curriculum is just as rigorous if not more challenging.  If you want to make the best out of your degree without having to sacrifice time with your family or work, an online degree through the University of Massachusetts is your answer.

A degree from UMassOnline is the same quality degree earned from the University of Massachusetts.  Whether on-campus or online, degrees are granted by The University of Massachusetts and will not contain references to ‘online’ on your diploma or transcript.
