Dr. Monaco is the Director of the University Without Walls, the degree completion program for working adult students at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Prior to joining UWW, Dr. Monaco was Dean of Arts and Humanities at Lynn University in Florida and Assistant Dean of Communication, Arts, and Humanities at University of Maryland University College (UMUC). She also held leadership positions at Mississippi Valley State University and Thomas Nelson Community College. Dr. Monaco teaches both online and face-to-face courses in writing, theatre, and literature.
Dr. Monaco holds a Ph.D. in English with a theatre specialization from The Catholic University of American, where she also earned her M.A. in English, and she holds a B.B.A in Marketing from George Washington University.
Dr. Monaco has been actively involved in online learning and assessment for many years. While at UMUC, Dr. Monaco proposed and led a writing initiative focused on developing a coherent curriculum for all writing courses and working with faculty worldwide on writing instruction and assessment. In addition, Dr. Monaco worked with instructional designers, programmers and faculty in the development of courses for online delivery in disciplines ranging from Japanese to Gaming. She was actively involved in the Middle States reaccreditation for UMUC, and serves as an evaluator for Middle States. She was the recipient of a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship and was a Fulbright Scholar to Estonia. |
