International students make up a significant part of the UMass Boston community, arriving on campus from across the globe. Many feel inspired and comfortable living and studying in the cosmopolitan atmosphere of Boston, where students from all over the world come to learn.

UMass Boston International Students Undergraduate Requirements

Requirements to be met by all International Students:

  • Completed admission application
  • Application fee of $100
  • An official high school record, leaving certificate and/or graduation examination results or their notarized copies -  All documents in foreign languages must be translated by a certified professional
  • SAT-I scores - Students seeking full admission to the university are required to submit the results of their SATs. To be considered for full admission to Engineering, Management and Nursing, applicants must submit SAT 1 test results. Please note: You must submit official copies of scores. The school code (CEEB code) for the University of Massachusetts Boston is 3924.
  • Academic Recommendation Letter ( from a school-based counselor and/or teacher)
  • Essay

Provisional Admission
UMass Boston may offer provisional admission to the international undergraduate applicants that meet all of the admission criteria, but whose TOEFL or IELTS results do not meet the minimum requirements.

UMassBoston International Students Graduate Requirements

  • International applicants must complete the General Application Requirements. In addition, international applicants must also complete the following requirements:
  • Official Transcripts and Official English Translations
  • Evidence of Completion of a University-level Degree Program
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Exam Scores
  • Completed "Declaration and Certification of Finances Form"(Application for an I-20)
  • Completed "Transfer Verification Form", if needed
  • International Applicant Fee
