UMassOnline Welcomes New UMass President, Martin Meehan

UMassOnline is thrilled to see the recent appointment of Martin T. Meehan as the next president of the five-campus, 73,000-student UMass system. The Board of Trustees unanimously selected Chancellor Meehan, who has served as the Chancellor of his alma mater, UMass Lowell, for the past eight years and has guided the school to a remarkable rise in rankings with the US News & World Report.

Job growth in the accounting field is driven largely by the health of the US economy. As the economy continues to grow, the demand for accounting jobs is projected to increase as well. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, by 2022, the US will see a 13% increase in accounting jobs (the average growth rate of jobs as a whole is predicted to be around 11%). Across the industry as a whole, accountants and auditors had a median salary of $63,550 in 2012, significantly higher than the national average.
