4 Tips on Selecting a Degree Program

You know you need to go back to school, but you are just not sure what to study. Does this sound familiar to you?

This dilemma is not an uncommon issue with adult learners. Sometimes it’s the awkward feeling of holding back and venturing off into the unknown that keeps us standing still. A lot of learners have been working in the same field for years, but are yearning to really pursue their passion.

Some great first steps to get the process in motion are:

1.    Check the Occupational Outlook Handbook to see exactly what the job market and salary entails for your dream job.

2.    Decide what type of education would be the best fit to get you started in the new field. Would a professional development certificate suffice or should you dive right into your bachelors?

3.    Look at the different options on getting your degree. Do you want to do evening classes on campus, fully online when you have time, or a little of both (blended).

4.    Once you have all that figured out it is now time to search for schools that offer your program. Do your homework when looking for a school that fits your needs. This is an educational investment that you will be responsible to pay for; so make sure you are getting exactly what you are looking for from your school.

Those are just a few tips to get the ball rolling on your educational journey. Feel free to share any recommendations you might have for students that are trying to decide what to study.
