We can’t believe another year has flown by as we enter 2017! Looking ahead, there are topics that we believe will be front and center in the coming year. Here are our predictions for higher education in 2017.

 

How Will Millennials Support Their Parents?

We recently wrote about millennials’ thoughts on education, and we can’t get enough of this energetic tech savvy demographic. But we still want to know, how do they feel about entering the work force? Recent studies have shown that millennials are nervous about their financial future. They are graduating with a pile of student debt, and entering the job force with lower salaries than their parents.

UMass Continues to Rise in the US News & World Report

We are pleased to share US News & World Reports new rankings data in the 2017 Best Colleges guide. UMass Amherst came in at number 27 of the nation’s best public universities list which put the university in the top 30 for the fourth year in a row. The prestigious list ranks more than 600 public, four-year universities in the country.

Additionally, UMass Amherst advanced from number 91 to 74 in the Best National Universities category which consists of 310 public, private and for-profit institutions. The rankings are based on a variety of weighted factors:

National Distance Learning Week

In the wake of this week’s presidential election the majority of the American populace, regardless of their political affiliation, is simply happy that this long and exhausting election season is behind us. Do they have magic? How is it that the lessons from some teachers stay with us, even when we have become parents of our own or the CEO of a company? What is it about certain teachers that they can influence generations?

We are excited to announce that for a second year in a row, UMass has made Reuters Top 100 list of the world’s most innovative universities!

President Meehan said that a big part of UMass being on this list is due to the innovative and committed faculty at the university.
