Criminal Justice and Substance Abuse

Students will learn how the two systems of addiction and criminal behavior overlap and examine the roles and responsibilities that have resulted in greater communication and interdependence among the courts, adult and juvenile justice professionals, and the alcohol and other drug abuse treatment professional. Many corrections agencies routinely provide substance abuse treatment services. Substance abuse treatment agencies provide court liaison and monitoring services. Case management of drug-involved offenders is provided by substance abuse treatment staff.Prerequisite(s): Department Permission Required
