We examine women's experiences with alcohol, tobacco, prescription and "street drugs," food and other "addictive" substances and behaviors. Our core concern is how this experience is shaped by gender inequalities and gender norms as well as sex differences. Other concerns include the impact of social class, race, ethnicity and sexuality.
