Practicing physicians and health care professionals can find interactive continuing medical education (CME) courses online from the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Continuing Education Department. The CME/CEU program currently offers a ‘Basic Skills for Working with Smokers Online Course’ which includes the following topics includes the following topics such as public health implications of tobacco use; health consequences of smoking/benefits of quitting; Nicotine addiction: criteria for dependency, treatment implications; types and use of pharmacological products; how to conduct a brief intervention (5A model); how to talk to your clients about their tobacco use and motivate them to quit; creating an environment supportive of tobacco treatment services.
