Admissions: 

Students can have a bachelor’s degree in any field—it does not need to be a science field. The first Bachelor’s degree must be from an accredited college or university.

  • GPA of 3.0 or better for your original degree.
  • Complete 7 prerequisite courses before enrolling in the program. (One course may be outstanding at time of application.)
  • GPA of 3.2 is required for the prerequisites:
    • Growth & Development Across the Life Span - 3 credits
    • Anatomy & Physiology I with lab - 4 credits
    • Anatomy & Physiology II with lab - 4 credits
    • Chemistry - 3 credits
    • Medical Microbiology with lab - 4 credits
    • Nutrition - 3 credits
    • Introduction/Basic Statistics - 3 credits
  • 3 letters of recommendation (All letters must be professional references and at least one must be an academic reference)
  • A statement of purpose in which you outline your reasons for pursuing a career in nursing; your skills and strengths which will help you succeed in this accelerated program; and what challenges you anticipate (maximum 600 words).
  • A professional resume
  • TEAS test scores are required for all students
  • A TOEFL score is required if you do not hold an undergraduate degree from U.S. higher education institution

Financial Aid: 
Availability of financial aid varies depending on matriculation and course status. Please check with your program manager or advisor to determine your eligibility. Generally, if you are matriculated in a degree program and are enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits each semester, you may qualify for financial aid.

The A.S. in Sustainable Food and Farming is designed for students who wish to explore careers in sustainable agriculture. Students acquire a basic knowledge of both plant and soil sciences, along with education in specific agricultural production and marketing techniques. The major offers flexibility in designing personal program of study, allowing students to focus on production and marketing, agricultural education, and/or public policy and community development.

The University of Massachusetts Amherst also offers a smooth transition into the online bachelor’s degree. Credits earned may be applied to the online BA, Sustainability Studies degree completion program through the University Without Walls (first bachelor's degree only) and the UMass Amherst Bachelor of Science Degree in Sustainable Food and Farming on campus.
