About: 

The UMass Amherst Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Post-Master's Online Certificate prepares nurses to obtain psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner certification. The program may be completed in as few as two years, with individualized plans of study which recognize each student's clinical practice experience. Students benefit from the Elaine Marieb College of Nursing's focus on integrated mental health care and from classes taught by the UMass Amherst Elaine Marieb College of Nursing's expert faculty.

This certificate will prepare students to:

  • Address the biological, psychological, social and spiritual elements of mental health care
  • Apply for the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)  Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner board certification examination
  • Work in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings

The PMHNP Certificate courses are completely online. Students gain experiential learning through clinical practica.

Admissions: 

Admissions Requirements

  • A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program of nursing with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • An active RN license

There is no application fee and prices are the same for in-state and out-of-state students. 

Note: UMass Amherst is subject to state authorization requirements in order to offer online programs to out-of-state students. Currently we cannot accept students who reside in  Alabama, Arkansas, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Oregon and Washington.
